The Red Room at The Mount Nelson Hotel by Chefs Warehouse

Liam Tomlin and David Schneider Open The Red Room at The Mount Nelson, Cape Town
The Red Room, Liam Tomlin’s newest upscale Pan-Asian restaurant has finally opened at the Mount Nelson Hotel, adding to the fine dining experiences that Cape Town has to offer.
The Red Room, which used to be known as The Grill Room in the 80s, is a lavish Pan-Asian restaurant with a beautiful ambiance in shades of red.
The small plates offered here will take you on a journey from east to west through the multicultural pan-Asian universe, as reflected in the beautiful narrative woven into the design.
With plush upholstery, rich textures, and attention-grabbing lighting, the restaurant offers a theatrical atmosphere to complement the exceptional food, which is a hallmark of the Chefs Warehouse brand.
The Red Room Menu

Upon arrival, patrons of the restaurant are presented with two carefully curated options: either unwind in a cozy deep-velvet booth with a tea-infused cocktail , and indulge in any of the flavourful small plates from the à la carte menu.
Alternatively, they can opt for the opulent dining experience and enjoy the four-course set menu designed for sharing, at R900 per person.
David Schneider, celebrated chef from the Chefs Warehouse, had this to say about what can be expected from the menu.
“Seasonal dishes that represent the breadth of Asia’s footprint, created with authenticity and served with absolute attention to detail. Our food will be divided into two menus: the casual à la carte bar menu, defined by flavour-packed small plates of dumplings, ssam, oysters, tataki, broths and more and then the set dining menu of 3 to 4 courses. The latter nods to our celebrated Chefs Warehouse tapas for two concept, but with unique focus points for each course.”
The Peking Duck Experience is the one that diners should really gun for, as it will present a dining experience like no other, as David Scheider shared with the Getaway magazine.
“Guests might start with the Line fish Sashimi and end with the Peking Duck Experience. This icon of Asia will be one to look out for, fire-roasted in our dedicated Peking duck cooker and wheeled over to your table on a gueridon before being carved by the waiter. The drinks menu will follow suit with a selection of enticing cocktails that pay homage to Asia’s tea and spice culture in addition to select sakes, whiskeys, and the best of our local wines.”
“The menu will take guests on a curated journey through the East, honouring these cuisines with a unique dining experience in an iconic setting,” Liam Tomlin shared.
