Sonia Mbele on Abuse Allegations Against her Son ‘Donell will face his demons & take accountability’

Sonia Mbele says she was shocked when she woke up to terrible news, news that she thought she had buried a long time ago. On Wednesday morning, we all woke up to Sonia Mbele trending on social media, because of abuse allegations that surfaced on social media implicating her son, Donell Mbele.

Donell’s (ex) girlfriend Reokeditswe Makete took to social media and shared some images of her bruised and swollen face, saying that Donell beat up when she found out that he was cheating on her & confronted him about it.

On one of the videos that she posted on her IG account, she’s seen crying on the video, that she captioned:

“He’s logging me out of my accounts, he’s logging me out of my accounts and he’s deleting all my posts because he wants everybody not to see what a bad man he is. Guys, he did this to me. I was so good to him [sic]”.

On a second post, she shares images of her swollen face, and some parts of their conversation, with the caption, “Donell is deleting my posts he’s logged into my account and is deleting all my posts that are exposing him.”

Donell’s mom Sonia Mbele released a statement on her IG page regarding the abuse allegations against to her son.

Parts of her statement read:

“From the age of 17 to 26 I was with a man who was abusive, physically, psychologically and emotionally. I’m mentioning this so that you understand that as a woman who has suffered ALL kinds of abuse, I do not stand for, support or condone such stance,” she writes in a statement.

Sonia says that finding out about the abuse allegations on social media broke her heart, and she wishes that Reokeditswe had told her about what was going on.

“I not only welcomed Reokeditswe Makete into my home but I treated her as a daughter and worked with her in support of her career in the entertainment industry, and right now I would like to reassure her that she still has my love and full support,” she shares.

“I’ve always been there, I’ve always been supportive. I now realise I should have taken preventative measures much earlier such as counselling and/or child therapy, but sometimes the mistake we tend to make as African single mothers is to assume and hope that things will work out for the best meanwhile certain past behaviours can affect generations to come,” the actress explains.

When it comes to her son Donell, she says that he will have to face his demons and be held accountable.

“With that said Donell will face his demons and take accountability for his actions and let the law take its course. I refuse to raise a man like his father. Rehab, therapy and internal healing will prevail,” she says and concludes her statement with, “Thank you South Africa.”

It’s sad though how she was being named and shamed on social media, when all she did was to be a mother to Donell. She didn’t do anything wrong, but she was dragged through the mud.
