Shaka iLembe is ready for it’s international blowup
Shaka iLembe is premiering on June 18 2023, on Mzansi Magic.
The excitement surrounding this captivating drama series SHAKA ILEMBE on Mzansi Magic is u like anything we have seen. Anticipation is high as the show is set to make its much-awaited debut on the 18 th of June.
In a fitting tribute, billboards featuring the renowned Nomzamo Mbatha in the esteemed role of Queen Nandi, the beloved mother of the legendary King Shaka, were unveiled on Queen Nandi Drive in Durban. Additionally, promotional installations of a similar nature now adorn the entrance and halls of King Shaka International Airport.
And last night Shaka iLembe had it’s premiere at Monte Casino in Johannesburg, where the cast and whose who of the entertainment industry came out to marvel at this amazing production.
If you have been living under a rock, “SHAKA ILEMBE explores the world that shaped the famed African King and his journey to the throne. Pivotal to his story from young boy to globally recognized icon was his mother, Queen Nandi. We felt it was therefore fitting this Heritage Day to honour her role with a campaign that bears the evocative words ‘My Son is Coming’.” says MultiChoice Director for Local Entertainment Channels Shirley Adonisi.
Renowned actress Nomzamo Mbatha, who is on the forefront of this production, who is also director of Shaka iLembe and Queen Nandi, had this to say, “I am honoured to bring the giant that is Queen Nandi to life. History will remember those who informed its people of where we come from, to better understand who we are. I am fortunate to be part of a project that is much bigger than ourselves and to tell this story in our own language. Impi iyeza!”

Shaka iLembe Cast
Shaka iLembe comes with a stella cast, including Nomzamo Mbatha, Lemogang Tsipa, Senzo Radebe, Thembinkosi Mthembu, Wiseman Mncube, Khabonina Qubeka, Dawn Thandeka King, Hope Mbhele, Mondli Makhoba, Sthandiwe Kgoroge and will introduce Ntando Zondi.
Abdul Khoza, Ziya Xulu, Calvin Ratladi, Phumlani Mndebele, Don Mlangeni, Vusi Kunene, Mduduzi Mabaso, Sibonelo Ngubane, Ayanda Borotho and Wanda Zuma star in the drama as well.
