Powerful Early Morning Earthquake Hits Gauteng

A 4.7 magnitude hits Johannesburg Sunday morning, leaving people shaken

In the wee hours of Sunday morning, a seismic event measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale jolted several inhabitants of Gauteng, rousing them from their slumber. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the East Rand region.

Around 2:38 am on Sunday morning, the tremor reverberated across various regions, including Johannesburg, making its presence felt. It was the Boksburg area that seems to have felt it the most, as some people even reported damage to their property.

One twitter user described the experience as that of being inside a moving train, one thing is clear, a lot of people were gripped with fear and panic when it happened. As someone who experienced it as well, it was one of the scariest experiences of my life.

The miracle I think, is that there have been no injuries or loss of life reported.

Unfortunately a few people have reported damages to their properties.

The tremor was strongest in the Boksburg area, but far and wide, as it was reported to have been felt in Pretoria.
