Cherry Omoda C5 for South Africa in April 2023

Chery South Africa has announced the forthcoming introduction of its Omoda brand to the South African market. The Omoda C5 model will be the first to be available for purchase in April 2023.

The Omoda C5 is a crossover SUV that was unveiled at the 2021 Guangzhou Motor Show. The name “Omoda” is derived from “O” for Oxygen, representing vitality, and “MODA” for modern and style-conscious aspirations.

The launch will be facilitated by 30 pre-selected Chery dealerships that will provide sales and support to customers.

“OMODA is a new, modern and luxurious new vehicle brand that showcases what can be done when a brand is not hindered by legacy technology or design,” says Tony Liu, the Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa.

“Every aspect of this range of products, from vehicle design, performance, technology and driving pleasure, has been designed from a clean slate and will truly surprise and delight South African motorists,” says Liu.

“The Omoda C5 is all about the unconventional and fashionable”

“This heralds the introduction of a new range of futuristic vehicles which embody Chery’s ‘Art in Motion’ design language into the South African Market,” said the company. “The Omoda C5 is all about the unconventional and fashionable, and its arrival will create a futuristic space called O-universe which is set to appeal to individualistic urban trendsetters who dare to be different.”

The Omoda C5 is a crossover SUV

The Omoda C5 is a crossover SUV that offers ample space for families, measuring 4,400 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,585 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,630 mm. This makes it slightly larger than the VW T-Roc, yet slightly smaller than the Toyota RAV4.

Chery’s new ‘Art in Motion’ design language is prominently featured on the Omoda C5, with an integrated diamond matrix grille flanked by split LED headlights and LED daytime running lights. The roofline of the Omoda C5 has a sloping, coupe-like silhouette, giving it a sporty stance from the side. Angular taillight clusters further enhance the sporty look of the Omoda C5.

Two integrated, curved 10.25-inch high-definition displays in a single panel, evoking the widescreen cockpit of a Mercedes, add to the interior’s sumptuous appeal. The entertainment, comfort, and driving requirements will be handled by the system. Moreover, the Omoda C5 has front sports seats. Nevertheless, exact details on the specification and cost for South Africa will be made known by the end of March 2023.

One of the first brand-new vehicles to be constructed using Chery’s cutting-edge T1X design, which can support internal combustion engines (petrol and diesel), hybrid, electric, and hydrogen powertrains, is the Omoda C5.

Although the available powertrain options in South Africa are not yet known, it is most probable that the Omoda C5 will employ a turbocharged 1.6-liter gasoline engine with 145 horsepower.

“By joining the OMODA family early, our South African friends will be the first to learn about the OMODA C5 and other OMODA models that will arrive soon,” says Liu.
